Chupkatha with veteran theatre artiste Dolly Basu at the helm is much more than an amateur theatre group. It serves as a sanctum for special children where they are allowed to grow and develop freely on their own. Numerous parents who had suffered the anxiety will testify to the fact and they freely express they gratitude to the institution for the role played in the grooming of their children. Dolly Basu believes that at Chupkatha, theatre is not merely a cultural extracurricular activity but an essential device for developing communication, independent thinking and qualities like responsibility and confidence among the children. She sharply criticizes the prevailing education system and considers the pointless pressure of academics along with expectation from the parents generally lead to what is considered as ‘problem’ with these children.
