Manish Mitra – From active student politics to theatre

Posted by Kaahon Desk On August 3, 2014

Before becoming a theatre director, Manish Mitra was a DSO (AIDSO) activist in his student life. After witnessing some examples of extreme hooliganism by political parties, he and some of his friends staged a theatre performance called ‘Sankat’. According to him, it was more a reaction to the then current state
of affairs than an expression of art. But this play garnered fame. This started him thinking seriously about theatre. After ‘Sankat’ they staged another play ‘Dakkhinrayer Pala’ which was highly successful. This was a turning point in their journey into theatre.
