Abani Biswas – a journey of theatre to alternative stage

Posted by Kaahon Desk On July 5, 2014

Jerzy Grotowski’s student/disciple Abani Biswas talks about his roots and the formative years of his theatre performances. His association with theatre began at quite an early age. However, in order to break out of the constraints of a subaltern stage, he started dabbling in a number of things. His deep yearning for exploring further arenas of performances drove him far and wide. Following a life changing meeting with legendary theatre director Jerzy Grotowski and a considerable period of time spent in his apprenticeship, he finally settled down on the peripheries of Shantiniketan where he launched the project The Sources’ Research – Milón Méla (in Bengali: The Fair of Coming Together). In 1990 Abani Biswas formed the work center Theatre House in the same place.
