Talking about female performers working on stage, Mishka Halim points out that women have probably been working professionally, that is in exchange of money, for a longer period of time than men in theatres. And there has always been the factor of judgment. In those days, the index was straightaway moral whereas now it’s a more complicated blend of socio-economic liberalization. But the fact remains that men always held their place as they were apparently following their passion. And even with all the talk about female performers in theatre, even today the number is actually meager compared to their male counterparts.
