Making his strict aversion for the term fusion quite clear, Bumpy declares that Kendraka can only be described as contemporary Indian music. It is the varying influences of each member and the idea of spontaneity that makes it difficult for Kendraka to be tagged or categorized easily. The apparent driving force behind Kendraka’s music is to bring out an artiste’s honest expression at a given moment and thus going beyond the established structures or paradigms of music. Bumpy especially mentions his experience at Tokyo with the Improvised Orchestra, which left an indelible mark on him and shaped the direction of Kendraka’s music.
