Jai Shree Ram: An argument on secularism in India

Posted by Kaahon Desk On October 5, 2014

In the this second part of Kaahon’s series on “Jai Shree Ram”, director Jul Mukherjee, talks about the rise of the right wing forces in the 2014 election. According to him, one of the direst consequences of this entire phenomenon has been the change in ideology of the Bengali Hindu upper caste/class, moving far away from the liberal and secular identity. Jul argues that the very idea of secularism is extremely problematic in our country. Instead of separating state and religion, there is a constant effort to balance out every religion!
