JHUMURA: a docu-feature transformed into a fiction-feature

Posted by Kaahon Desk On March 25, 2015

Talking about his film Jhumura, filmmaker Anindya Chatterjee delves deeply and passionately about Jhumur Gaan, the folk music from Purulia. He had always been attracted to the old, nuanced and rich history of this lesser known form which inspired him to take it up as a subject for a documentary. But in the course of his research work, one he describes as a journey, the film took the shape of a feature fiction with the vast subject of Jhumur serving as a backdrop. Anindya also shares interesting anecdotes about the origin of the word which again reveals the inherent and organic relation of the form with people.
