Malay Bhattacharya questions role & purpose of film school

Posted by Kaahon Desk On August 17, 2014

Filmmaker Malay Bhattacharya feels the role of State is inadequate in ensuring the development of Cinema. He shares his experiences from the film schools running on financial aids given by Government. However, students are often so concerned about the sheer production value, they end up investing their own money into their projects. Thus there is a discrepancy in the system and the basic purpose is somewhat lost. Furthermore, often the direct grants fall victim to flawed policies and bureaucratic red tape. Hence, the question remains about the role and purpose of State itself. Whether to encourage creative development or just supply technicians to the Film Industry?
