Pradipta talks on the budget fight in making a film

Posted by Kaahon Desk On July 28, 2014

Sharing his experiences of the film industry, Pradipta Bhattacharyya, the director of national award winning film Bakita Byaktigato, admits that he was quite taken aback to find that the relatively low budget of his film became an issue in marketing and distribution. He found the reasons cited to be enigmatic, unclear and somewhat baseless. Pradipta speculates that the logic must be an economic one rather than creative or aesthetic. Low budget films actually challenge the mainstream system. It is not easy to fight a monolithic industry. It’d require collective and consistent effort and resistance akin to the European movements like Italian Neo Realism or the French New Wave to showcase cinemas not following the pattern or template of the industry. Maybe we have to wait for another Satyajit Ray or Ritwik Ghatak
