No next generation in Bohurupee folk form!!

Posted by Kaahon Desk On December 25, 2015

Bohurupee has been one of the richest and most dynamic and exciting folk forms of Bengal. This practice of putting on makeup and costume and performing is unfortunately on its way of becoming archaic and maybe lost. People like Uttam Kumar Mondal, Binoy Bagdi and Bipottaron Dalui hailing from Labhpur, Birbhum have been associated with the practice of Bohurupee performances nearly all their lives. They admit quite candidly that it can be hardly considered to be a lucrative career path. However, for these people it is a calling and they seem to be driven by a passion. Mostly they do farming and odd jobs on the side for sustenance. None of them sound hopeful about the future of Bohurupee, as even their sons are unwilling to take it up.
