Swapan Basu: Stage to folk music through hills of Northeast

Posted by Kaahon Desk On March 15, 2016

Talking about his preference for folk music from the north-eastern region of India, Swapan Basu feels that this region has always been neglected and overlooked. He feels that the region is a rich repository of music and folk culture. He performs folk songs from the Garo and Khasi Hills and also talks about the anecdotes associated with them. He looks back at his early days in theatre and how stalwarts like Badal Sarkar and Hemanga Biswas among others encouraged him to pursue performing folk music seriously.
