Born on 13th June 1979, Saikat Mallick, a resident of Kolkata has done post graduation in Film Ed Read More iting from FTII, Pune between 2003-07. He has several documentaries to his credit as director. Among these, Koh-i-noor, a 37 min documentary on a 7 yr old projectionist in a remote town of Bangladesh has premiered at the International Short and Documentary Film Festival of Kerala in 2011 and has been awarded the third best documentary at the Jeevika International Livelihood Film Festival, new Delhi. As an associate director he has worked in the feature Ocean of an Old Man, the film that was granted the Asian Cinema Fund for post-production at Busan International Festival in 2008. As cinematographer he has shot parts of Tracing Phalke, an anthology on the life and times of Dadashaheb Phalke. He has edited the documentary on BBC named Voices Across the Ocean, which went on to win the National Award for Best Director in 2008. He has also worked as a visiting lecturer in the dept. of Film Studies at West Bengal State University between 2010-11. He has facilitated several workshops on Phalke in Nashik, Pune, Baroda, Bombay and Kolhapur. At present he is working on his feature film in Bangladesh. Uttoron: The new Dawn ! (2014) is his latest documentary.
